When I give something less than 4 or 5 stars I owe the reader (and the writer) an explanation. This thing moved way too slow for my tastes, and it felt repetitive. I wanted to see unfolding drama, but it felt more like a primer on the inner workings of the spy world, point-by-point, without missing a beat. The writer is actually quite good at this, it's just not for me. He writes with clarity and as I gather from his biography, has actually experience in the field about which he writes. But, IMO, he neglected the primary calling of a novelist, it didn't entertain as much as I would prefer.Product details

Once again Mr. D'Antoni has written an action-packed book that is hard to stop reading once started! I've enjoyed the 3 books (plus the short stories) that I've read so far and am anxious to start number 4 in this series. Hope he gets number 5 out in about two days!
Wade Hanna has finally achieved his goal of earning a college education but not without great risk to his well being. After he completes a few classes, he will be an operative who is ready to start working in the intelligence community. Does he play it safe and take a desk job or does he take a less traveled path of life and work on dangerous field operations? Given Wade's personality and background of living on the edge, one guesses that he will participate in covert assignments that will take him to far places in the world.
There is someone about whom he cares deeply--Megan, his former handler, who occupies a special place in his heart. Does he accept, "the shadow," Leo's offer to work on an assignment that involves undercover work with a beautiful, young and agent, Angele Dubois, or does he stay in Washington DC where he and Megan can start a life together? He expresses his affection for his lady love in a poem and darts out of town for what he thinks will be a short time and a safe first assignment.
His first undercover assignment doesn't disappoint. He is highly trained, intelligent and is well suited for this type of "off the books" work. He returns, yearning for Megan who has disappeared without a trace. Where is Megan? Did the war lords that he helped kill follow him back to the States and capture Megan?
The difference between Joseph D’Antoni’s spy thriller, Rogue Asset, and others in the same genre is that his book is one that is founded on intelligence rather than copious amounts of action. Don’t get me wrong – there’s certainly enough action in the book but the author’s protagonist remains grounded in reality, having to use his powers of deductive reasoning in order to figure things out. The main character, Wade Hanna, isn’t your typical seasoned spy – quite the opposite, in fact. During a surveillance exercise, Wade and his four-member team are tasked to track an experienced operative, Emily, in Bridgeport, Virginia but things don’t exactly go according to plan as the operative quickly shakes two members of their detail before outsmarting Wade and his surveillance partner. While Wade is green in experience, he’s got good instincts and those instincts are soon put to the test as he accepts a difficult assignment in Tangier.
The author is a forensic and economics expert whose clients have included the FBI, Department of Justice, intelligence agencies and some of the largest law firms in the country. As such, the author’s prose is laced with authenticity and authority, keeping the reader engaged although there’s certainly enough action to keep things from becoming too analytical. Wade is a rookie agent with much to prove and Rogue Asset will have readers rooting for him as he’s forced to match wits with a rogue asset who refuses to let anything – or anyone – stand in its way.

I loved this and see the author has another one coming out! Count on me to be the first to buy it! I haven't read a book in a long time that kept me as engaged in this one. And talk about surprises and twists.
Mystery and suspense was with me on every turn of the page! Not only is the action intense but the main character Wade Hanna has to finds ways to work with foreign operatives and mercenaries he doesn’t know. The UK rogue agent is always one step ahead of Wade. He has to learn fast as he works with a black opts master and retired CIA operative he barely knows. I was glad to see Wade’s love interest finally blossom but now wonder what fate awaits their relationship. A well written novel which develops and tantalizes the reader into the main character’s mind each step of the way. A must read that you will enjoy!
Rogue Asset by Joseph D'Antoni is a 272 page thriller and is Book 3 of the Wade Hanna Series. It has twenty-two chapters and an author bio. Book Two is Lethal Authority and Book One is Silent Sanction. The Fourth novel in the series is Shadow Cell and will be out in 2015.
This is a terrific character driven story. The action is fast and furious and held my attention the entire way. It was hard to put down so I kept going back to the story off and on all day. If you love a great spy novel then I would suggest picking up this series.
